Spanner in the Works: Chugg Entertainment Replies!!

2010
03.04

It was a VERY exciting day today! I was idly scrolling through my HUNDREDS (not really) of @replies to @perthrants when I stumble across one from @ChuggEnt or as normal people that don’t Twitter call them: Chugg Entertainment.

You might remember from previous blogs, Chugg Entertainment are the promoters of John Mayer’s upcoming Battle Studies “Australian” Tour.  This is pretty much how the conversation played out between Me and Chugg:

I pointed out that Perth would please like to have a John Mayer concert this year just like all the other states in Australia. Then I sent them a link (or several) to this blog page. When that didn’t work I WOW-ed them with my extraordinary maths skills and told them that 510 people were passionate about getting John Mayer to Perth this year!!

I also made mention of Chugg in my last post and asked them if what I was trying to do was possible and reiterated that 510 people are EXTREMELY passionate about supporting John Mayer’s Battle Studies tour in Perth:

And what I came to realise today was that the good people at Chugg WERE listening! But I did not anticipate their reply:

They’d LOVE to bring John Mayer to Perth but can’t because of scheduling conflicts. Well Chugg, that’s not your fault!!! Thank you for replying to my tweets and my posts!!

I can feel you thinking dear blog-reader: “Is that where it ends, then? Are we done here?!? Can we go home yet?!?!”

Not exactly. I responded to Chugg with a thank you and a very important question, just to be clear:

With no response yet from Chugg and a lengthy, philosophical, introspective and analytical afternoon I have decided: No. I will not stop campaigning. I appreciate that Chugg have said that there are scheduling conflicts and I truly thank them for replying and letting me know, but I can’t quit now!

So, I’m changing the focus of my campaign. Instead of trying to get John Mayer and Orianthi to come to Perth (which is pretty much fruitless at the moment) I’m going to try and facilitate scenarios that may ENTICE them to come to Perth should their SCHEDULES SUDDENLY CHANGE.

I know all of you reading this blog (I’m talking to you both my two faithful readers!) are starting to think I’m a little bit crazy. Well, truth is – I just might be (but in a good way!).

At some point this campaign must end – and it will (probably when John Mayer has his first show in Australia in Brisbane on the 30th of April 2010 at which stage this campaign will have morphed into a “MAKE YOUR OWN JOHN MAYER CONCERT – AN INTERACTIVE LIVE SHOW IN YOUR PERTH LIVING ROOM”) but NOT TODAY!

Others Dedicated to Getting John Mayer to Perth!

I told you all that I would blog about the Backstreet Boys concert in Perth last night, but I’m going to put that off for a post or two because something MUCH MORE important has come to my attention…. there are other groups dedicated to getting John Mayer to Perth in April/May!!

How these groups slipped by my radar I will never know!! I’m still astounded at my lack of observational skills on Facebook – I seriously don’t know how I could have missed them (a huge thanks to the friend that pointed them out to me!!) But my lack of observational skills are not the point of this post.

The point of this post is to bring your attention to all of the campaigns and groups (that I know of) dedicated to bringing John Mayer to Perth this year!

I’m going to start with the most successful group: BRING JOHN MAYER TO PERTH…JOIN! Group on Facebook. With 367 members they are well on their way to demanding a John Mayer Battle Studies show in Perth! FANTASTIC EFFORT!!! Join this group to get a rockin’ John Mayer show in Perth!!

The second Facebook Group Bring John Mayer to Perth has also done some great work in uniting 132 John Mayer fans living in Perth! Join this group too pump up their numbers!!

The third campaign is the one you have stumbled upon! The Get John Mayer to Perth Campaign. With a solid twitter following of 9 and the number of confirmed readers at 2 – we are well on our way to getting the numbers we need to get CHUGG ENTERTAINMENT interested in setting up a JOHN MAYER SHOW (with ORIANTHI) in PERTH!!

Now, if you (my two faithful readers) got lost in all of that wording, I have summarised it all for you in this swanky table:

So all up there are 510 Perthians that want JOHN MAYER IN PERTH!!!! 510!!! Chugg Entertainment – are you listening?!?!

For those of you that have read this blog and want to get involved in my online campaign, this is what you need to do (it was remiss of me not to mention it earlier!!!):

  1. Get on Twitter and follow @perthrants (me for this blog) then with your first foray into tweeting use these 140 Characters to spread the word of this campaign (you can just copy-paste the text in red):  RT @perthrants Dear @ChuggEnt @johncmayer & @orianthi – PERTH WANTS A BATTLE STUDIES TOUR STOP TOO!!!! http://tiny.cc/Xy01L
  2. Contact Chugg Entertainment or John Mayer’s People or Orianthi’s People or ANYONE ELSE YOU KNOW that could help spread the word that the people of Perth want a Battle Studies show this year!!
  3. Come back to this blog and use the comments box to tell us what you did or leave suggestions on what else we can do!
  4. Check back here regularly for more laughs and posts – even if this campaign goes nowhere, the least we can do is have fun!

I have something exciting planned for my next campaign blog post and it involves Hamish and Andy and the John Mayer Sunrise Snuggie I won! (READ THE LAST POST IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!) That exciting post is coming very soon… like maybe tomorrow! :)

A Sunrise Snuggie: Thanks to John Mayer

Another thing I didn’t know when I started this blog campaign was that I would win a Sunrise Snuggie…. all because of John Mayer!

You may be wondering what a Snuggie is…. well its basically a blanket with sleeves. A Sunrise Snuggie?? That’s a Snuggie with a Sunrise logo on it! No offence to the makers of Snuggies, but a Snuggie without a Sunrise logo is like toast without Vegemite!

So how did John Mayer help me win this Snuggie? Read on!

I’m not so green nor so egotistical to think that this blog was ever going to get the extremely talented John Mayer to amend his tour schedule. If the John Mayer Team did choose to put Perth on the list of cities for the Battle Studies ”Australian” Tour, I know that the effort will not have been mine alone (or at all!). It takes a lot of fans and people in high places to pull something like this off! If for nothing else, I figured this would be a fun way to meet and interact with John Mayer fans living in Perth. And just between you and me I didn’t actually think anyone was going to read this blog (but I know at least two people in Perth have – thanks!).

So, there I was twittering away wondering how I could possibly get the word out there about the campaign when I remembered that Sunrise has a twitter feed going! I checked it out and there was a tweet about concerts – I thought this is PERFECT, I’ll just follow them and send a reply with a link to this site!

So, I did. This is what happened next:

I won a Snuggie for @perthrants being the 10,000 follower of @sunriseon7 on Twitter!!!! I can not believe it!!!! I’m…. speechless!!!

Coincidence?!? I’m not sure, but it gave me goosebumps.

And in my private correspondence with the good people of @sunriseon7, I shamelessly told them about this blog! (Oops!)

I don’t think anything will come of it – I mean lets be realistic here people! I’m just a girl living in Perth dreaming about seeing John Mayer in concert! THEY are SUNRISE!! The best known Morning Show in the whole of AUSTRALIA!!

Thank you for the Snuggie Sunrise! I will claim it for now, but half of it doesn’t really belong to me. Half of it belongs to John Mayer, because if I did not start this campaign, or this blog, I would NOT have joined Twitter under the handle of @perthrants, I would not have been the 10,000 follower of @sunriseon7 and I would not now be the proud owner of (half) a Sunrise Snuggie!

Thank You Sunrise and Thank You John Mayer!

By the way, John – if you do come to Perth on your Battle Studies Tour, I’ll owe you half of the Sunrise Snuggie and half of my heart.

Things I Did Not Know

2010
03.01

I didn’t know I would start this campaign!

I didn’t know I would start a campaign to try and get John Mayer to stop off at Perth for the Battle Studies tour. It was something that just happened a few days ago. I did know that Perth being left off the list of cities for the Battle Studies ”Australian” tour irked me. But I didn’t know I’d actually do something about it (how ever successful or feeble this attempt may end up being!).

I didn’t know a day after starting this campaign that more tour dates would be added!

I also didn’t know that the day after I posted my Get John Mayer to Perth Campaign blog that the JM Team would announce additional tour dates in JAPAN! Only THREE days after the Sydney show – which would have been the PERFECT time to slot in a PERTH show! No matter, there are still two days between the Sydney and Tokyo shows that Perth can have a show. I don’t know much about the logistics of concerts but if a show in Tokyo can be added three days after a Sydney show, I don’t see why there would be an issue in having a Perth show a day after the Sydney show. THERE IS STILL TIME!!

I didn’t know John Mayer hadn’t toured Japan in over 3 years

So, these new tour dates are BRILLIANT news for Japan!

But I do know that the last time John Mayer was here in Perth was in 2007 (that is 3 years by my calculations) for the Blues & Roots Festival in Freo. I remember also being irked about this because ALL the other states in Australia got FULL concert shows that year while Perth got a tiny set of John Mayer at the Blues & Roots Festival. :(

Lastly, I didn’t know I had it in me to do this:

CHUGG ENTERTAINMENT PLEASE BRING JOHN MAYER AND ORIANTHI TO PERTH IN 2010!

Blogging-Illiteracy Does Not Help Campaign

What does a huge John Mayer fan do to get him to add another Battle Studies tour date in Perth, Western Australia?

She starts a blog.

What She did not anticipate is that blogging and building a blogosphere is not as simple as it sounds.

The smallest thing like adding a widget for my twitter feed to drum up some publicity and support for this online campaign took three hours. Why? I don’t know!!!!

One thing I do know is that  technophile musicians (such as the likes of John Mayer) who always endeavour to take us to new heights of musical enjoyment with their technical prowess would NOT be impressed.

So what is the point of this post?!?

The point is that I want to see John Mayer and Orianthi in concert in Perth so much that I am willing to spend THREE hours of my Labour Day Public Holiday figuring out the complexities of widgets. :)

The Get John Mayer to Perth Campaign

John Mayer Rocks!

Do you believe in the power of blogs? I wasn’t sure I did until I finished watching Julie & Julia about 5 minutes ago. Even though I’m a little more convinced now, the scientist in me is itching to test the theory. So I’m gonna. And with it comes my first RANT!

Like many a Perthian John Mayer fan, I was sadly disappointed to learn that Perth would NOT be a stop on his Battle Studies “Australian” tour. The second blow came when I learned that the extremely talented and gorgeously kick-ass Orianthi was to be his support act! Correct me if my maths is out but that’s not one but TWO great acts Perth is going to miss out on. And I just can’t stand for it ANY LONGER!

I’m not sure why Perth always misses out on the big-name acts. Though Pink certainly hasn’t forgotten us (GO PINK!!). I refuse to believe the whole: “its too hard to transport sets and equipment to Western Australia’s isolated city” – as far as I’m concerned if Pink can do it with her elaborate set up then so can every single other big-name act!! I’m talking to you John Mayer and I’m not giving up without a huge online protest (I hope).

So. This is my online campaign to get John Mayer to stop over at Perth on his Battle Studies tour.

What have I done so far?
I’ve emailed Sunrise’s ROS wall to ask WHY Perth always misses out on great shows and then conveniently added the example of John Mayer NOT coming to Perth. (Subtle, I know.)

And I went to this website: http://www.chuggentertainment.com/contact and asked Chugg Entertainment very politely (its always important to be polite!) to please consider adding Perth to the list of cities on the Battle Studies Australian tour.

What’s next?
I’m going to do what any self-respecting Perthian would do – I’m going to Twitter like crazy and hope I attract the attention of enough people to get this thing going. If you’re from Perth (or not) and are just as outraged as I am in missing out yet again on another John Mayer tour, please join my online campaign. Let’s do this thing respectfully.

It was just a couple of days ago that a fan on Twitter said that 20,000 people fell in love with John Mayer at the Garden. Don’t the people of Perth deserve the chance to fall in love with John Mayer too?!?!

I sincerely hope so.

Ranter out.
