Google Image: Friend.

The first picture that comes up when you google image the word “friend” is this:

                                                               friend

Its no wonder that when you have a falling out with a good friend your heart feels like its going to break… and when you make a new friend your heart soars.

Friendship is precious - its a shame more people don’t know that. Its an even bigger shame that things like frenemies exist.

Love makes the world go round, hate is brings it to its knees…
and google image reminds us of how important the role of true friendship is.

Make Your Own John Mayer Concert- An Interactive Live Show In Your Perth Living Room

2010
04.30

Well, its safe to say there will be no John Mayer show for Perth this year…. no matter, Perthians are known for their resourcefulness!! We don’t NEED John Mayer to come to Perth to see him in concert, we can make do with our own self-made interactive John Mayer concert in our own living rooms.

Here is the how to guide, bought to you by your very own PERTHIAN – RovingRanter:

SETTING UP FOR THE INTERACTIVE LIVE SHOW:

  1. Get a John Mayer Live DVD - a bootleg filmed in 3D is going to be our gold standard, but if you aren’t friends with James Cameron or can’t find this exceedingly rare form of recording a Blu-Ray version will do just as well. DON’T THROW OUT THE 3D GLASSES – this interactive concert won’t be any fun at all if you don’t look as cool as you possibly can!! 3D glasses are the gold standard of cool.
  2. Hook Up the Surround Sound – if you can’t do this, just turn up the volume on your TV until it feels like surround sound!
  3. Hook in the Sub – you want feel as well as hear those awesome base sounds!
  4. Disco Ball or Mood Lighting – your pick, they are both acceptable.

GETTING THAT CONCERT VIBE IN YOUR LIVING ROOM:

  1. Do you have good friends that are also JM fans? Invite them over – you’re all set
  2. No good friends that are also JM fans? No worries, you don’t need friends to have a good time at this concert – its interactive. But why not put yourself out there and invite some musically-oriented friends that may not have been exposed to John Mayer’s music – at the end of the concert you may have made them a new JM fan, wouldn’t that be fun?!?!

Now that you’re all set for the concert (live recording on DVD and a friend-audience) all you need to worry about is the interactive part! Here it comes:

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN JOHN MAYER CONCERT – AN INTERACTIVE LIVE SHOW IN YOUR PERTH LIVING ROOM:

  1. Give someone that is not you the remote control, tell them to wait until after the mood lighting has been switched on before they randomly hit play.
  2. Turn the mood lighting on and squeal in delight and excitement as you wait for John Mayer to take the stage!
  3. Everytime John asks the audience a question, i.e. “How are you all doing tonight?” etc – ANSWER IT with all the enthusiasm you would if you were at a concert.
  4. Sing along, dance and when your favourite JM song is played squeal again!
  5. ENJOY THE CONCERT!!!!

Costs:
Rental/purchase of Live DVD and friend-audience – $100
Being at your very own PRIVATE John Mayer live show – PRICELESS!

I’m looking forward to my very own interactive John Mayer concert. I’ll let you know how it goes! :)

Brisbane: City of Fortunes… Especially On the 30th of April 2010

2010
04.29

Why?

Because John Mayer has the first of his “Australian” tour dates in Brisbane… TOMORROW!!

I was fortunate enough to visit Brisbane last year, it was unfortunate that it was the height of summer when I did! While I love the idea of the tropics, the humidity was bordering on unbearable… but Brisbane has a lot of things to offer that make up for it.

So while John has still not decided to come to Perth YET on this tour, I’m going to offer him  and all of those lucky, lucky people that are flying over to Brisbane from Perth (or whatever city they are from that was not fortunate enough to get a John Mayer show) to see the man himself in concert tomorrow a list of my ten favourite things to do in Brisbane! For the rest of you stuck in Perth or those other unfortunate cities that are not going to get a John Mayer concert, the next blog post (coming right after this one!) is for you! But for now, read on to find out what I love doing when I’m in Brisbane!

The "spiderweb" bridge and views of Brisbane city while sailing over the Brisbane River in the CityCat. Nice.

The "spiderweb" bridge and views of Brisbane City while sailing over the Brisbane River in the CityCat. Nice.

1. GO TO THE JOHN MAYER CONCERT AT THE BRISBANE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE – I’ve never been to a John Mayer concert (hence my annoyance at Perth missing out), but there are somethings you just KNOW you’re going to love.

 2. Catch the Ferry to South Bank – What better way is there to see the city than sailing over the Brisbane River… its an even better journey at night when the city lights sparkle on either side of the river. Magical.

 3. South Bank – The cultural hub of Brisbane and one of the most beautifully developed foreshores I have ever seen. Take a stroll through the Arbour and try NOT to be arrested by its beauty and design… I DARE YOU!

4. Have a Steak at the Plough Inn- Seriously, BEST. STEAK. EVER. Cooked to your liking and served on a massive platter of chips and salads. Make sure you take some muscle along with you, the plates are heavy! Order a steak, salivate while you wait (this happens involuntarily) and when its done, plough inn!

5. Visit the Krispy Kreme Store in the City - Like the John Mayer concert, Perth does not yet have a Krispy Kreme franchise. Up until last year I spent over 20 years not knowing what I was missing out on. BEST. DONUTS. EVER.

6. Visit the Eels at the City Botanic Gardens- If you look closely enough in the ornamental ponds you will find EELS!  And they will creep you out and fascinate you in a way no other aquatic creature does (this includes axolotls!).

7. Australia Zoo – FUN DAY OUT! One of the most hands on zoos I’ve ever been to. You can feed the elephants, interact with the wandering wildlife and have your picture taken with all kinds of animals. Its number 7 on the list because the commute from Brisbane can be long if you’re taking public transport, but worth the trip no less!

8. Dreamworld- We are all kids at heart and Dreamworld proves it. I had my photo snapped in Shrek’s Swamp after having purchased a pair of Shrek ears that I proceed to parade around in for the rest of the day. :) Don’t miss the 4D Shrek show – you’ll be in for a treat!

9. Walk Along Coro Drive- That’s Brisbane speak for Coronation Drive (in Milton/Auchenflower) and watch all the tropical wildlife jump out at you (lizards of all shapes, sizes and colours). I developed a theory that these lizards were playing quite an intense game of FROGGER with the human traffic, don’t be surprised when a lizard darts across the walkway right where your foot should have landed had you not seen it!

10. GO SHOPPING IN THE CITY – The shopping in the city is AMAZING! For those that disagree with me, just remember, I’m from Perth. :)

To all of you that are going to the John Mayer show in Brisbane – have a wonderful time and cheer twice as hard for all us Perth fans that can’t be there to cheer on John Mayer ourselves.

On that note, I’m going to leave you all with a scintillating fact about the Brisbane River: it is populated with Bull Sharks! Don’t fall in!

‘Night Peeps!

Perth storm blog meets battlestudies campaign blog

2010
03.31

Most of you Perthites out there know that last Monday (22/3) the weather was CRAZY! Most of you probably got stuck in it on the way home. Some of you may have even been pelted with golf ball sized hail as you drove along the Mitchell Freeway… if you were a wuss like me (and so many others),  you may have even had to take a small breather in the Tunnel before you decided to keep driving while being only 10% hopeful that the hail wasn’t going to follow you.

Maybe we saw each other in passing. Maybe not.

Most of us have suffered damages from the wrath of the storm. This blog in no way makes fun of that situation, it merely re-tells an amusing anecdote that SURPRISINGLY (not really) relates to John Mayer and Perth – which fits in PERFECTLY with my campaign! :)

If I’ve learned anything during this freak golf ball sized crazy hail storm, it was:

  1. Perth drivers are MUCH MORE considerate of each other when the weather decides to attack with such ferocity (I was a little proud!).
  2. Perth people band together to help each other out when things get chaotic!
  3.  We ALWAYS find silver linings… and a way to make money out of them! (The Hail Sales)

AND most importantly for the purposes of my campaign I learned that:

  1. You can’t hear your John Mayer Battle Studies CD over the sound of denting metal and torrential rain! (My only source of comfort in amidst the violent storm!)

I also learned that every time I saw a lightning strike on the way home last Monday (and there were quite a few!) I started singing Heartbreak Warfare…

“Lightning strikes
Inside, my chest to keep me up at night…”

…and it seems I may not have been the only one! It was a tiny little bit weird when a certain Perth radio station played this song after a segment about the storm! :) Good to know we are all on the same wavelength, Perth!

Don’t know if John Mayer will ever decide to come to Perth and sing to us about lightning in person, but I do know one thing – if its NOT John Mayer keeping us up all night, its certainly crazy golf ball sized hail storms… especially for those of us that live in houses with aluminium roofs!

Random blog.

Stay safe people and keep taking care of each other!

Wishing you all minimal fall out from storm damage!

Aren’t You Supposed To Be Blogging About Perth NOT John Mayer???

2010
03.22

In short: Yes.

I know I have spent most of my blog posts to date discussing John Mayer and his lack of Battle Studies tour date in Perth.

In long: I AM BLOGGING ABOUT PERTH!! ;)

My “Entice John Mayer to Perth Campaign” totally fits the whole premise of this blog – when you live in Perth you miss out on great shows! Its just a fact of life here! Over the next few blog posts or until this campaign ends, there are probably going to be unusual combinations of blogs where John Mayer references will just pop up while I’m telling you about Perth. I’m pretty sure it will be weird. I think I’m going to guarantee that it will be RANDOM! At the very least the posts will be interesting! Just read them and see! :)

(*SIGH*) Are You Ever Going to Stop Campaign Blogging About John Mayer?

I will stop campaigning and resume plain old Perth blogging when he has finished the “Australian” tour, moved on to the next leg of his world tour (Japan) and STILL hasn’t stopped in Perth. (The exact date is May 11th.) Up until that point there is STILL HOPE FOR A BATTLE STUDIES SHOW IN PERTH!!!!

There is still hope…

… I hope.

Numbers on the Rise! More Fans Want John Mayer to Come to Perth!

2010
03.12

The numbers don’t lie.

One week ago this was the situation:

This is how the numbers sit now:

That’s FORTY more people that want a John Mayer show in Perth – JUST IN THE LAST WEEK!!! The numbers don’t lie – Perth fans heart John Mayer!

I would like to thank all of my twitter followers for helping bump up the numbers a little! Special shout out to @amyamyamyy for spreading word of the campaign, to @perthblogger for setting up this site and to @razzberry2 for reminding me of the difference between snuggies and Snuggies!

540 people WANT A JOHN MAYER AND ORIANTHI SHOW IN PERTH!!

Let’s keep this thing going!

So, the new rules of engagement in this online campaign are as follows:

  1. Join my twitter campaign by following me (we’re going to move on to a trending campaign soon – stay tuned!)
  2. Post random tweets that express your desire for a @johncmayer show in Perth! (include @perthrants in the tweet for a SHOUT OUT in this blog!)
  3. Read this blog and write comments with suggestions of what else we can all do to ENTICE JOHN MAYER TO PERTH!
  4. Have fun, but be respectful!

You never know, we might all end up succeeding in getting a show in Perth!

Entice versus Intice: John Mayer Helps Blogger Learn Correct Usage!

2010
03.11

Hello People Reading This Blog,
(All THREE OF YOU!! Yes, the numbers have gone up! But more on that later!)

It has been a whole week since my last post. Why? I hear you ask. Well to be frank, once I heard that there were scheduling conflicts and that there was only a slim chance (if ANY at all) in getting John Mayer to do a show in Perth I had to dig deep to keep this thing going.

Now that I’ve reassessed, I’ve decided that only good things can come of showing John Mayer (if he EVER even reads this blog – not holding my breath!) how much support he has here in Perth. GO PERTH! Or is that GO JOHN MAYER?!

Either way, John Mayer has taught me a lot through this blog, albeit indirectly. For example, I learned that at last count there were 509 other fans in Perth that LOVE his music SO MUCH that they were willing to join Facebook Groups and Follow Twitter Accounts to simply TRY and get him here (new count coming soon!) .

John Mayer also taught me that widgets are not as simple as they seem!

I also discovered that if you start a blog after being inspired by Julie & Julia and then win a Snuggie and then get a response from a massive Promo Company because of it – it can really make  you believe in the magic of fairy tales… or movies… or fairytale movies. WAS IT REALLY JUST A COINCIDENCE?!? I’m still baffled by the the chain of events that lead me here!

While all of these very important learnings have had quite significant impacts on the life of this blogger, the most valuable lesson of all came about 10 minutes ago when I learned the difference between ENTICE and INTICE. One tiny letter can change the entire validity of a campaign, trust me,  you DO NOT want to make this mistake – its REALLY embarrassing ! Let’s take a closer look as to why:

Entice means to attract by arousing hope or desire. Synonyms include lure, persuade, tempt, coax or tweedle. (Thanks to the Free Online Dictionary for this meaning!)

Intice IS A WORD THAT DOES NOT EXIST! Its a misspelling of entice. D’oh!
Now, let this be a lesson to all of you – if you spend too much time studying, like I have, simple things like this seem to slip through the cracks!

So, to John Mayer I must say: thanks for the all that you have taught me indirectly through this blog campaign. I’m going to use these valuable lessons to TRY and ENTICE you to Perth…

and prove to myself once and for all that the magic we see in art of all kinds really does exist!

Spanner in the Works: Chugg Entertainment Replies!!

2010
03.04

It was a VERY exciting day today! I was idly scrolling through my HUNDREDS (not really) of @replies to @perthrants when I stumble across one from @ChuggEnt or as normal people that don’t Twitter call them: Chugg Entertainment.

You might remember from previous blogs, Chugg Entertainment are the promoters of John Mayer’s upcoming Battle Studies “Australian” Tour.  This is pretty much how the conversation played out between Me and Chugg:

I pointed out that Perth would please like to have a John Mayer concert this year just like all the other states in Australia. Then I sent them a link (or several) to this blog page. When that didn’t work I WOW-ed them with my extraordinary maths skills and told them that 510 people were passionate about getting John Mayer to Perth this year!!

I also made mention of Chugg in my last post and asked them if what I was trying to do was possible and reiterated that 510 people are EXTREMELY passionate about supporting John Mayer’s Battle Studies tour in Perth:

And what I came to realise today was that the good people at Chugg WERE listening! But I did not anticipate their reply:

They’d LOVE to bring John Mayer to Perth but can’t because of scheduling conflicts. Well Chugg, that’s not your fault!!! Thank you for replying to my tweets and my posts!!

I can feel you thinking dear blog-reader: “Is that where it ends, then? Are we done here?!? Can we go home yet?!?!”

Not exactly. I responded to Chugg with a thank you and a very important question, just to be clear:

With no response yet from Chugg and a lengthy, philosophical, introspective and analytical afternoon I have decided: No. I will not stop campaigning. I appreciate that Chugg have said that there are scheduling conflicts and I truly thank them for replying and letting me know, but I can’t quit now!

So, I’m changing the focus of my campaign. Instead of trying to get John Mayer and Orianthi to come to Perth (which is pretty much fruitless at the moment) I’m going to try and facilitate scenarios that may ENTICE them to come to Perth should their SCHEDULES SUDDENLY CHANGE.

I know all of you reading this blog (I’m talking to you both my two faithful readers!) are starting to think I’m a little bit crazy. Well, truth is – I just might be (but in a good way!).

At some point this campaign must end – and it will (probably when John Mayer has his first show in Australia in Brisbane on the 30th of April 2010 at which stage this campaign will have morphed into a “MAKE YOUR OWN JOHN MAYER CONCERT – AN INTERACTIVE LIVE SHOW IN YOUR PERTH LIVING ROOM”) but NOT TODAY!

Others Dedicated to Getting John Mayer to Perth!

2010
03.03

I told you all that I would blog about the Backstreet Boys concert in Perth last night, but I’m going to put that off for a post or two because something MUCH MORE important has come to my attention…. there are other groups dedicated to getting John Mayer to Perth in April/May!!

How these groups slipped by my radar I will never know!! I’m still astounded at my lack of observational skills on Facebook – I seriously don’t know how I could have missed them (a huge thanks to the friend that pointed them out to me!!) But my lack of observational skills are not the point of this post.

The point of this post is to bring your attention to all of the campaigns and groups (that I know of) dedicated to bringing John Mayer to Perth this year!

I’m going to start with the most successful group: BRING JOHN MAYER TO PERTH…JOIN! Group on Facebook. With 367 members they are well on their way to demanding a John Mayer Battle Studies show in Perth! FANTASTIC EFFORT!!! Join this group to get a rockin’ John Mayer show in Perth!!

The second Facebook Group Bring John Mayer to Perth has also done some great work in uniting 132 John Mayer fans living in Perth! Join this group too pump up their numbers!!

The third campaign is the one you have stumbled upon! The Get John Mayer to Perth Campaign. With a solid twitter following of 9 and the number of confirmed readers at 2 – we are well on our way to getting the numbers we need to get CHUGG ENTERTAINMENT interested in setting up a JOHN MAYER SHOW (with ORIANTHI) in PERTH!!

Now, if you (my two faithful readers) got lost in all of that wording, I have summarised it all for you in this swanky table:

So all up there are 510 Perthians that want JOHN MAYER IN PERTH!!!! 510!!! Chugg Entertainment – are you listening?!?!

For those of you that have read this blog and want to get involved in my online campaign, this is what you need to do (it was remiss of me not to mention it earlier!!!):

  1. Get on Twitter and follow @perthrants (me for this blog) then with your first foray into tweeting use these 140 Characters to spread the word of this campaign (you can just copy-paste the text in red):  RT @perthrants Dear @ChuggEnt @johncmayer & @orianthi – PERTH WANTS A BATTLE STUDIES TOUR STOP TOO!!!! http://tiny.cc/Xy01L
  2. Contact Chugg Entertainment or John Mayer’s People or Orianthi’s People or ANYONE ELSE YOU KNOW that could help spread the word that the people of Perth want a Battle Studies show this year!!
  3. Come back to this blog and use the comments box to tell us what you did or leave suggestions on what else we can do!
  4. Check back here regularly for more laughs and posts – even if this campaign goes nowhere, the least we can do is have fun!

I have something exciting planned for my next campaign blog post and it involves Hamish and Andy and the John Mayer Sunrise Snuggie I won! (READ THE LAST POST IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!) That exciting post is coming very soon… like maybe tomorrow! :)

A Sunrise Snuggie: Thanks to John Mayer

2010
03.01

Another thing I didn’t know when I started this blog campaign was that I would win a Sunrise Snuggie…. all because of John Mayer!

You may be wondering what a Snuggie is…. well its basically a blanket with sleeves. A Sunrise Snuggie?? That’s a Snuggie with a Sunrise logo on it! No offence to the makers of Snuggies, but a Snuggie without a Sunrise logo is like toast without Vegemite!

So how did John Mayer help me win this Snuggie? Read on!

I’m not so green nor so egotistical to think that this blog was ever going to get the extremely talented John Mayer to amend his tour schedule. If the John Mayer Team did choose to put Perth on the list of cities for the Battle Studies ”Australian” Tour, I know that the effort will not have been mine alone (or at all!). It takes a lot of fans and people in high places to pull something like this off! If for nothing else, I figured this would be a fun way to meet and interact with John Mayer fans living in Perth. And just between you and me I didn’t actually think anyone was going to read this blog (but I know at least two people in Perth have – thanks!).

So, there I was twittering away wondering how I could possibly get the word out there about the campaign when I remembered that Sunrise has a twitter feed going! I checked it out and there was a tweet about concerts – I thought this is PERFECT, I’ll just follow them and send a reply with a link to this site!

So, I did. This is what happened next:

I won a Snuggie for @perthrants being the 10,000 follower of @sunriseon7 on Twitter!!!! I can not believe it!!!! I’m…. speechless!!!

Coincidence?!? I’m not sure, but it gave me goosebumps.

And in my private correspondence with the good people of @sunriseon7, I shamelessly told them about this blog! (Oops!)

I don’t think anything will come of it – I mean lets be realistic here people! I’m just a girl living in Perth dreaming about seeing John Mayer in concert! THEY are SUNRISE!! The best known Morning Show in the whole of AUSTRALIA!!

Thank you for the Snuggie Sunrise! I will claim it for now, but half of it doesn’t really belong to me. Half of it belongs to John Mayer, because if I did not start this campaign, or this blog, I would NOT have joined Twitter under the handle of @perthrants, I would not have been the 10,000 follower of @sunriseon7 and I would not now be the proud owner of (half) a Sunrise Snuggie!

Thank You Sunrise and Thank You John Mayer!

By the way, John – if you do come to Perth on your Battle Studies Tour, I’ll owe you half of the Sunrise Snuggie and half of my heart.
